Behind the work
About Jade Houben.
This young designer, fascinated by material, colour and movement, graduated with a master’s degree in Jewellery Design and Goldsmithing from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 2020. In her Vibroyant work, she combines modern technology with craft: she creates two-dimensional drawings on a computer, laser-cuts them from self-assembled fabric layers in playful colour combinations, then links them by hand, piece by piece and loop by loop, into flexible three-dimensional objects. Each piece of jewellery consists of hundreds of interlinked components that create rhythm, texture and movement.
Nature’s influence is clear: petals, butterfly wings, scales and growth patterns. Sometimes these are subtle and sometimes explicit, depending on her process. Trial and error is central to Jade’s approach: trying, reflecting, adapting and allowing unexpected turns to surprise her. The textile jewellery is light and flexible and returns to its original shape. It truly comes to life when worn, inviting the wearer to discover how it moves with the body.
