Marijke van Welzen

Under the art2wear label, Marijke van Welzen creates artistic coats with a story. Textiles are her passion: their tactile qualities, flexibility, immense range of colours and visual structure offer countless possibilities for expression.

Marijke enjoys working around a theme and follows an intuitive process. Using small pieces of fabric and coloured sewing thread, she ‘draws’ the image. The story grows beneath her hands, like a puzzle whose right pieces sometimes prove elusive and sometimes fall naturally into place.
